As a member, you play an important role in the governance of Affinity Credit Union. The election of directors is one of the most important ways for you to have your say in the governance and direction of Affinity. As a financial co-operative, we are looking for directors who have the knowledge, skills and experience to guide Affinity.

The Affinity Board of Directors (the Board) is comprised of 12 members who are responsible to ensure that Affinity remains a forward-looking, responsible and successful credit union that serves its community well. A director must comply with government regulations, protect credit union assets, safeguard member and employee rights and ensure the financial health of the credit union.

Affinity’s success relies on having a dedicated and engaged board. Through a rigorous recruitment process, the Board seeks individuals with specific skill sets to ensure that, collectively, the Board has the right balance of skills and experience for effective governance and oversight. Co-operative values are a fundamental part of the board’s makeup because they reflect Affinity’s commitment to its members and the communities it serves.

In 2025 the Board sought candidates with demonstrated experience and expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Human Resources and Compensation: Experience with human resources issues in a corporate environment with relevant knowledge of regulatory requirements, compensation plan design and administration, leadership development/talent management, succession planning, and compensation decision-making, including ensuring alignment between compensation plans and corporate strategy.
  • Information Technology: Knowledge of current and emerging technologies, current risk and regulatory requirements as they would specifically apply to Affinity’s strategic, regulatory and operating environment, including information security risk and cyber security risk.
  • Business Growth and Transformation: Knowledge and experience with designing and implementing a member-focused service delivery strategy in a high-growth, evolving industry, including experience in mergers and acquisitions; leading significant strategic change; using technology and digital capabilities to advance business objectives in a business similar in size and complexity to Affinity Credit Union; innovative and/or disruption in a sector; brand strategy and roll out.

Affinity is seeking directors with a broad range of strategic skills and depth of practice in leadership and governance. The Board considers leadership to be the ability to positively motivate and influence others, possess credibility and integrity, and effectively represent Affinity. Governance is defined by the Board as the ability to demonstrate and apply knowledge and understanding of the role and responsibilities of the Board of Directors within Affinity’s larger governance framework.

For 2025, the Board specifically encouraged applications from Indigenous members.

Directors work hard to oversee the affairs and performance of the credit union. They work with the executive team to review, approve, and monitor Affinity’s strategic direction and risk appetite, set policies, and ensure we comply with statutory and regulatory requirements.

There are 4 director positions open for election, each for a 3-year term. Following a thorough assessment process from the Nominating Committee with the support of an external, independent governance consultant, the Board has determined that there are 7 best qualified candidates to be presented to the members.

Learn about the individuals running for election and take the time to vote for up to 4 candidates. Directors are elected to serve for 3-year terms and will assume their positions immediately following the Annual General Meeting on April 16, 2025.

After a thorough assessment, the Nomination Committee and Board determined the following individuals best met the 2025 desired director candidate criteria.

To ensure neutrality, the names of the candidates were randomly drawn to determine the order that they would appear on the website, mobile applications, Director Election Booklet and ballot.
